Too rainy or cold to hit the beach or the pool? No worries! There are plenty of things to do when the weather’s not right for the sand and waves. Here are some of our personal favorites.
- See a show!
If you’re on the shore, Little Theatre of Virginia Beach is a local non-profit theater group that puts on shows regularly. They pride themselves on fair ticket prices and have been regionally and nationally recognized, so you’re in for a treat while at the same time supporting a local group of people doing what they love most. Check out the website for information on what shows are playing while you’re around.
- Jump around!
Did you know there are indoor trampoline parks? What better way to have some fun and burn some calories with the family? Virginia Beach is home to Rebounderz, a cheap option in the trampoline park world. Sessions can be scheduled by the hour, so get out there and work out your legs.
- Break out!
Escape Room is a fun indoor option for a rainy day. It puts you in a room with your family or friends, and lets you solve puzzles or mysteries to break yourself out. Can you run a successful heist? Break out of prison? Solve a murder? Escape Room is a great place to find out.
- Check out a children’s museum!
If you’ve got kids, this is a good way to keep them entertained, but a learning opportunity as well. The Virginia Children’s Museum at Portsmouth has two full floors of exhibits and a planetarium. Check out their site for information on opening times and ticket prices.
- Take a trip to the Central Park Funland!
If the weather’s not right for Busch Gardens or Kings Dominion, Central Park Funland is an indoor amusement park with over twenty rides. It’s also got fun activities like laser tag, Go-Karts, miniature golf, bowling, batting cages and bumper cars. Plus, you can play some games and earn some prizes! Perfect for families with kids, and there’s something for all ages.
- Go rock climbing!
Indoors, of course. A little rain doesn’t mean you can’t do something more extreme. Virginia Beach Rock Gym has one of the biggest climbing walls, and different difficulty levels. Whether you’re looking for a challenge or something fun to try, admission is cheap and it’s bound to be a fun day.
- Go Sky Diving!
iFly provides all the thrill of skydiving with none of the issues with weather – not to mention, it’s safer! iFly uses wind tunnels to simulate a free fall experience, and is open to any skill level, including young children (with a guardian, of course). The state-of-the-art facility boasts fun from ages 3 to 103!
- Head to the aquarium!
If you can’t see your ocean-dwelling friends in their natural habitat, head out to the Virginia Aquarium. With 800,000 gallons of aquarium, there’s always something to see, and the marine biologist staff can tell you all you need to know about aquatic life and all that relates to it.
- Check out an indoor water park!
If you’re staying at Virginia Beach, take a drive out to Massanutten Indoor Water Park. It’s open year round and is home to slides, spray grounds, kiddie pools, and Virginia’s first and largest “Flowrider” surfing simulator. The best part is, it’s open year round, rainy days included.
10. Play some mini golf!
If you’re looking for a fun place to putt when the weather’s bad, King Neptune’s delivers. Not to mention, it’s 54 holes of glow-in-the-dark! With the lights out, you can watch your ball as it whizzes through glowing lights and tunnels.
