If you’re by the Oceanfront and looking for something to do for Independence Day, you can’t do much better than the Stars & Stripes Explosion. Located right on Beach Street USA, or the beach on 24th street, the event boasts special performances, deals on food and drink, and plenty of fun for the whole family. Plus, it’s conveniently located right where you want to be – the beach!
The best part is there’s something for everyone. If you’re looking for something especially patriotic, the event kicks off with a performance befitting of Independence Day: the U.S. Fleet Forces Wind Ensemble and U.S. Fleet Forces Four Star Edition band, playing patriotic favorites as well as timeless classical music. They have earned a reputation as the most consistent and respected performing ensembles in Virginia, and are one of the largest and finest military bands in the nation. They are joined by Symphonicity, the main musical offering at the event for the past fifteen years, focusing on their large repertoire of classical favorites with a twist of patriotism for the occasion.
But that’s not all. Aside from the classic music our country was founded on, the Independence Day celebration also offers a Motown tribute, a cover band playing favorites of the crowd and willing to take requests, and later a DJ to get everyone dancing. This is all a precursor to the fireworks, which start at 9:30PM and have made claim to being one of the most spectacular, involved shows around, especially so close to the sand and waves.
