35th Annual Virginia Beach Christmas Market

35th Annual Virginia Beach Christmas Market

With Christmas comes Christmas shopping, and there’s no better place to get some of that done than at a market. After all, what’s better than having everything in one place? The annual Virginia Beach Christmas Market, coming up on its 35th year on November 25th-27th, is one of the best opportunities in the area to get some gifts together. With plenty of unique items to pick up, test out, and sift through, there’s bound to be something for everyone, even if you don’t end up buying anything. It’s probably the only time all year you’ll see it in one place.

The market is held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, and hosts more than 250 fine artisans and crafters representing over 20 states. Readers of Sunshine Artist Magazine voted the event one of the best arts and crafts shows in the USA since 1996, two consecutive years in a row (and it looks like they will for the foreseeable future, because the event just keeps getting bigger). Featured artisans will offer fine arts, pottery, jewelry, stained glass, wood, toys, photography, fiber arts, thousands of Christmas collectibles, and whatever else they happen to bring along with them. Crafters have been willing in the past to take commissions right on the spot, coming up with some truly special gifts for loved ones. How many people can say they got art made for them on the spot?

Plus, there’s food and music, too. Specialty food vendors will offer a “Taste of the Holidays.” You can create your own gift baskets with Southern Supreme fruitcakes, fudge-by-the-pound, spicy salsas, Wissie cakes and cookies, sparkling cider, party dips or Vicky’s homemade jams and jellies. While you’re stuffing your basket, Doorway Singers will be performing old-fashioned Christmas caroling and taking requests.

The event lasts all weekend. Admission is $7 for adults, $2 for children 6-12, and any children under 6 get in free. The price covers admission for the whole weekend, and there’s plenty of free parking around the convention center. Whether you’re scrambling for Christmas gifts or just looking to browse, it’s definitely an event worth giving a shot.
