The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium

The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium

Need a little adventure to spice up the calm autumn days? The Adventure Park might be just the place to do that. An aerial, forest obstacle course that features climbing and zip lining, there may be no better way to see the changing leaves and colors of fall than this. For starters, park gets you up close and personal with nature and has you interact with it in ways you wouldn’t normally get the chance to. After all, how often do you get to fly through the majestic beauty of a Virginia forest? It’s one thing to take a hike through one of the many trails around the coast and beaches, and another entirely to experience it from way above the normal vantage point.

If you’re worried about safety, the staff at the park are there to reassure you. They’re all trained professionals who know exactly how to get through the course unharmed. On top of that, it’s entirely child-friendly. There are different difficulty levels depending on age, skill, and mobility, so as long as you pay attention to what they have to tell you and any recommendations they might have, you’re good to go. The equipment is all professional and tested and the course itself is safety-checked frequently to make sure there aren’t any unknown risks. Safety is a priority even during an adventure! With the price of your ticket, you get a 40 minute safety and harness instruction, and that doesn’t take away from the three hours of climbing time you get, either.

It’s worth a try, and there are 15 trails to try out, so if you want to start off as a beginner and work your way from there, there’s nothing stopping you. Each trail branches off into different difficulty levels, six in all, and all six are clearly marked with colors as they would be on a ski trail. All in all, the park manages to transform  the five acres of forest surrounding Virginia Aquarium with more than 170 platforms connected by bridge crossings, rope courses, zip lines and more.

Tickets for children 5-6 are free when they’re accompanied by adult. Children 7-11 pay $47, while 12+ pay $55. Call (757) 385-4947 for information about park hours and special packages, and enjoy your adventure.
